Italy's unemployment rate in Italy
dropped to 6.2% in August from 6.4% in July, ISTAT said
Wednesday.
It was the lowest rate recorded since September 2007 when it was
also 6.2%.
The national statistics agency added that 1.5 million people
were seeking a job, down by 46,000 compared to July and by
355,000 with respect to August 2023.
ISTAT said the number of people in employment in Italy increased
by 45,000 in August with respect to July to reach 24.8 million.
The number of people in employment was up by 494,000 compared to
August 2023, up 2.1%, the statistics bureau added. On a monthly
basis, the increase in employment (+0.2%) affected men and all
age groups except those aged 35-49, for whom a decline in
employment was observed, as well as for women. Overall, the
employment rate remained unchanged at 62.3%, ISTAT said.
