Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister
Antonio Tajani on Friday denied reports that Elon Musk had a
hand in the release of Italian journalist Cecilia Sala by Iran.
Sala, 29, a freelance reporter for Il Foglio newspaper and a
podcaster at Chora News, returned to Italy last week after being
released by Iran following her arrest in Tehran on December 19.
Last weekend Italy released Mohammad Abedini Najafabadi, an
Iranian engineer arrested on December 16 at Milan's Malpensa
airport on a US warrant.
"Elon Musk had nothing to do with the Sala affair," Tajani told
Skytg24.
"He made contact with the family, but he played no role.
"The case was resolved by the Italian government".
Tajani added that US Secretary of State Antony Blinken never
expressed opposition to him about what the Italian government
did to secure Sala's release.
Iranian officials have also denied the reports of Musk's
involvement in the Sala case.
