The new chief police commissioner of
Rome Roberto Massucci said a ban on pro-Palestinian
demonstrations originally scheduled on Saturday in the Italian
capital "exists and must be respected".
He stressed however that there is "dialogue" with promoters to
"find a different timing and legal framework" for the protest.
Meanwhile the Palestinian communities of Rome and Lazio on
Wednesday said they would not be taking part in the October 5
demonstration and had decided, after the ban, to stage another
event on October 12 in Rome, the president of the president,
Youself Salman, told ANSA.
On Monday, a Palestinian Italian group, Arab-Palestinian
Democratic Union (UDAP), said they would appeal to the Lazio
regional administrative tribunal (TAR) against the allegedly
"arbitrary and political" decision to bar their planned
pro-Palestine demonstration on October 5.
