The Consular Agency of Morón, in the province of Buenos Aires, in collaboration with the municipal authorities and the local Com.It.Es, has organised the first edition of the Italian Walk, an event open to the public that invites visitors to discover the imprint of Italian immigration in the area.
The proposal, which is part of the 'Year of Roots Tourism' initiative, aims to strengthen ties between Italy and Argentina by rediscovering the Italian heritage in Morón.
The activity, reports a note, consisted of a two-kilometre walk, led by the operators of the Municipality's Historical Institute and Archives. The walk passed some emblematic points of the city, which constitute historical testimonies of the migratory flows to Argentina in the period between the 19th and 20th centuries.
Along the way, the participants were able to learn about the stories of the places visited, which were the result of Italian involvement in the construction and development of the city.
In addition to rediscovering shared history and culture, the Italian Walk was an opportunity to create new bonds within the Italian-Argentinean community.
The event was widely attended by residents and families who - by sharing their stories, also with the support of family photographs - contributed to keeping the cultural heritage of Italian immigration alive.
The Consular Agency and Com.It.Es., the note concludes, stressed the importance of activities of this kind in promoting and strengthening ties between Italy and Argentina.
