The pleasure of taste and the excellence of Italian food return to Algeria with the ninth edition of the 'Week of Italian Cuisine in the World', dedicated to the 'Mediterranean Diet and Roots Cuisine: Health and Tradition'. An important message on the link between cuisine and roots, to promote the closeness and rediscovery of the common culinary traditions of the Mediterranean basin.
The theme of this year's edition also recalls how a balanced diet, based on the appreciation and combination of high quality Mediterranean ingredients, promotes wellbeing and longevity.
For this year, the Italian Embassy in Algiers, together with the Italian Cultural Institute and Ice, has planned a rich programme of activities to illustrate the Italian culinary and gastronomic tradition and to discover the common Mediterranean roots between Italy and Algeria.
In particular, the week will be dedicated to one of Sicily's excellences: San Vito Lo Capo and its 'Couscous Fest'. Thanks to the expertise of Sicilian chefs Calogero Bascio and Antonio Vultaggio, this edition's guests of honour, it will not only be possible to discover typical Sicilian dishes but also common gastronomic influences.
After the inaugural event at the Residence of the Italian Ambassador in Algeria, Alberto Cutillo, the programme includes, with the direct involvement of the Algerian authorities, collaboration with several Algerian restaurants, an event in collaboration with the Tizi Ouzou hotel school with a masterclass, and training and refresher activities on ice cream with the Eshra cooking school.
Completing the schedule is a showcooking in a popular programme on the national television channel Samira TV to share with the Algerian public some of the secrets of the most important traditional Italian recipes and an event open to the public in the centre of Algiers.
A calendar, the one conceived by the Embassy in Algiers and accompanied by intense media activity, to illustrate in a friendly and Mediterranean country, the Italian gastronomic panorama that is internationally recognised as one of the indelible marks of Italy in the world.
