The Italian Embassy in Madrid hosted the presentation of the 'Gianni Versace Retrospective' exhibition, which will open on 7 February at the Unicaja Foundation Cultural Centre in Malaga under the patronage of the Embassy itself.
In his speech, Ambassador Giuseppe Buccino Grimaldi emphasised how revolutionary the Italian designer was, coming to create a new aesthetic paradigm inspired by classicism, mythology, baroque, but also punk and pop culture. The ambassador also recalled how the designer from Reggio Calabria "still represents a globally recognised excellence of Made in Italy".
During the evening - presented by Embassy Cultural Counsellor Teodora Danisi - the Director of Cultural Activities of the Unicaja Foundation José María Luna and exhibition commissioner Karl Von der Ahé also spoke.
The exhibition - which will remain open until 30 June - has been conceived as a journey through the life of Gianni Versace, starting with his childhood spent in Southern Italy and ending with the years spent in Milan, New York and Miami, narrating the designer's creative genius through more than 500 original pieces including creations, accessories, unpublished photographs, fabrics, sketches, prototypes and prints.
