Yesterday, the Italian Embassy in Madrid hosted an event presenting the Netflix Italy series 'Il Gattopardo', which has been available on the streaming platform since 5 March.
In his opening speech, Ambassador Giuseppe Buccino Grimaldi stressed how 'this production, with a modern and powerful language, honours and interprets the beauty and complexity of Tomasi di Lampedusa's literary work'. The ambassador also pointed out that "the series brings to the screen a profound reflection on historical changes and the passage of time, offering a new and powerful opportunity to understand Sicily and the unique value of its culture and history". "Netflix's worldwide broadcast," he added, "will further promote this indispensable part of the Italian identity, cradle of the Mediterranean, crossroads of peoples and civilisations, with its extraordinary artistic and cultural treasures.
The evening was attended by personalities from the business, hotel, cultural, artistic and Spanish aristocratic worlds, along with Netflix representatives including Tinny Andreatta, vice-president of Netflix Italy, Fabrizio Donvito, managing director of Indiana Production, and Esperanza Ibáñez, Netflix's public policy director for Spain. Guest of honour was actor Saul Nanni, who plays the character of Tancredi Falconeri in the series.
The historical research for the lunch menu by Embassy chef Giuseppe Ferraro was particularly appreciated.
