Justice Minister Carlo Nordio on
Wednesday denied that anyone had been spied on by Italy's
penitentiary police using Paragon spyware last year.
"I can assure you that no contract has ever been stipulated by
the DAP (prison authority) or by the dependent general
directorates of the Mobile Operations Group and the Central
Investigative Unit with any private company," the minister told
Question Time in the House.
"Wiretaps are only done with the authorization of the judicial
authority. No contract has ever been stipulated with any company
of any kind. No person has ever been wiretapped by structures
financed by the Ministry of Justice in 2024 and no one has ever
been wiretapped by the penitentiary police".
