Italy's Federica Brignone won the
giant slalom at Sestriere Friday to boost her lead at the top of
the World Cup standings.
Italy's winningest ever World Cup female skier had finished the
first run in second place behind New Zealander Alice Robinson,
but recorded the best time in the second run, finishing in the
lead with a total time of 2'12''69, ahead of Robinson (2'13''09)
and Norway's Louise Tjernsesund (2'14''26).
The victory came after the 34-year-old from Milan's recent
success in the giant slalom at the World Championships at
Saalbach in Austria.
Brignone now has 32 World Cup wins, second only to the great
Alberto Tomba on 50.
Brignone won the World Cup overall title in 2020, becoming the
first Italian female to achieve this feat
