A young man from Pescara, Giacomo
Passeri, arrested about a year ago in Egypt for drug possession,
was sentenced to life imprisonment by a court in Cairo
Wednesday, his brother said.
"We are still in shock: they have informed us that my brother
has been sentenced to life imprisonment, with 25 years to serve
in Egypt", said Andrea Passeri.
In recent months Passeri's family had raised the alarm about his
condition in jail.
He had also started a hunger strike to protest about the
treatment he was receiving and the length of his trial.
