Italy's Andy Diaz Hernandez won the
gold medal in the men's triple jump at the World Athletics
Indoor Championships in Nanjing, China, on Friday, with a new
Italian record of 17.80 metres.
The 29-year-old Cuban-born athlete, who took bronze at the 2024
Paris Olympics, also notched a new world lead with the winning
leap, which was his first.
Silver went to China's Zhu Yaming with a jump of 17.27 metres,
while Brazil's Almir Dos Santos won bronze with a leap of 17.22.
The Italian indoor record had belonged to Fabrizio Donato,
Diaz's coach, who jumped 17.73m in Paris in 2011.
The Italian outdoor record of 17.75m is also held by the
Italian-Cuban athlete.
Diaz won gold at the European Indoor Championships earlier this
month too.
